Faculty

Don Falk is a Professor in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Arizona, with joint appointments in the Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research and the Arizona Institutes for Resilience. He holds degrees from Oberlin College, Tufts University, and the University of Arizona, where he received his PhD in 2004. His research focuses on resilience ecology, fire history, fire ecology, global change ecology, ecological restoration, and ecosystem resilience in a changing world.

Dr. Shang Gao serves as Assistant Professor in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. Before joining the University of Arizona, Shang worked at the University of Oklahoma (OU) as a postdoctoral research associate. He obtained his Ph.D. in civil engineering at University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). By training, Dr. Gao is a hydrologist studying two ends of the hydrologic spectrum, i.e., floods and droughts. He combinedly utilizes hydrologic models, remote sensing observations, and data-driven methods to understand the surface water dynamics.

I am on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Mountain Lion Foundation; I host a podcast called Wild Connection that explores our relationship with nature; and I have authored several popular science books.
