Fisheries Conservation and Management

We collaborate on fisheries research, focusing on conservation, invasive species management, habitat restoration, and climate impact to protect freshwater ecosystems.

Faculty in our school work independently and cooperatively with state and federal scientists and researchers on a wide variety of fisheries research projects. They focus on topics critical to the field, especially the conservation of native desert fishes and invertebrates, the biology and management of nonnative aquatic species, and restoring aquatic habitats for endangered fishes and other aquatic species. Faculty also assess the effects of climate change on fisheries here and elsewhere and quantify how humans have affected inland aquatic ecosystems and species. Federal, state and non-governmental organizations – including the National Park Service, the Arizona Game and Fish Department, and the Nature Conservancy – support and use our research to make science-based decisions and policies that protect our threatened freshwater habitats and fauna.
