I am excited to quantify individual variation in Mt. Graham red squirrels' territorial vocalizations termed rattles. In other red squirrel populations, rattles encode individual identity, and familiarity with neighbors through rattles contributes to survival and reproductive success. I am interested to know if Mt. Graham red squirrels, with much smaller populations and less genetic diversity, have similar vocal distinctiveness.
