Western University Exchange Tuition Savings Program

The Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program connects non-resident students with programs that may not be available in their home states, building the foundation for a greater impact on education in the Western region of the United States.

Eligible WUE students at the University of Arizona pay a tuition rate of 150% of in-state/resident non-guaranteed tuition (plus all applicable fees). The B.S. in Natural Resources is one of two WUE eligible programs at the University of Arizona.

  • Deadline to enter the WUE tuition discount program for changes of major
Students who change their major to Natural Resources or add it as a second major can start WUE tuition within the first 9 or 10 days of the semester. The deadline is the same as the full refund deadline each semester and can be found on the registrar’s dates and deadlines page. After this deadline, students must wait until the next semester to start the WUE tuition discount program.
  • Advisors will confirm your WUE eligibility and progress in the Natural Resources major every semester in the week before the semester starts and the week after the semester ends. Any changes after the regular refund/drop deadline will be reflected in the next regular semester term. Notification will be sent by advisors and the residency office.

  • Students are required to meet with Natural Resources advisors each semester during the month before priority registration begins.
  • You will have a registration hold on your account every semester. You must meet with the Natural Resources academic advisors to review your progress in the major and to remove your class registration hold. Advisors will evaluate your continuing WUE status based on the renewal requirements. You must meet the 2.0 minimum cumulative GPA and make progress in the major, which entails enrolling in a minimum of 12 units per semester – of which at least 50% come from major requirements. The 50% rule includes students with double majors/dual degrees.
  • At the mandatory advising meeting, you will go over the recommended courses for the upcoming semester and plan future semesters as needed.

No. WUE is not part of the guaranteed tuition program; annual increases vary.

  • Your time enrolled through the WUE program does not count toward building in-state residency.
  • Parent and spouse residency changes allow you to get residency immediately, otherwise you need to be off of WUE for one year to apply for residency on your own.
  • If your parents have permanently moved to Arizona, you may be eligible for residency for the following semester (you or your parents do not need to be physically present in AZ for 12 months under this exception) under the Dependent Exception Form
    • The student and parent(s) need to provide all of the documents listed on page 1 of the form. Please refer student/ parent(s) to the form or residency classification department for additional information.
    • It is not enough to own property in AZ to obtain residency for tuition purposes.
