Dr. David Quanrud Contributes to U.S.-Iran Resilient Cities Symposium

Dr. David Quanrud, associate research scientist in SNRE, served as coordinator of the U.S.-Iran Symposium on Resilient Cities held at the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering at University of California, Irvine on June 16-18, 2014. The symposium brought together 34 invited scientists and engineers from Iran and the U.S. to share their knowledge and visions for developing resilient cities for minimizing impacts of environmental and other types of disasters. Dr. Quanrud and Dr. Mitchell Pavao-Zuckerman were among the speakers at the symposium. The Symposium was facilitated by the National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. State Department with a goal to contribute to the development of an improved roadmap for collaboration among national and international specialists concerned with the sustainability and resiliency of urban infrastructure systems including water, buildings, transportation, communications, and social and health services. Dr. Quanrud is serving as editor of the Symposium proceedings. The event was sponsored by The University of Arizona, National Academy of Sciences, and Sharif University of Technology.
