Dave Breshears named 2015 Fellow of the Ecological Society of America

Dr. Dave Breshears has been named one of the Ecological Society of America's 2015 Fellows. ESA began its Fellows program in 2012, in order to recognize its members "who have made outstanding contributions to a wide range of fields served by ESA, including, but not restricted to those that advance or apply ecological knowledge in academics, government, non-profit organizations and the broader society." 

Breshears with his collaborators have alerted the research community, policy makers and the public to the growing climate change threat to forests and other vegetation posed by drought accompanied with warmer temperatures, triggering widespread investigation on mechanistic causes, ecohydrological context, ecological consequences and natural resources management options for forest die-off.

Fellows are nominated and chosen by the ESA Awards committee, and must be professionals with at least fifteen years experience, who have "demonstrated excellence of contributions to one or several of the following areas: (1) research and discovery, (2) communication and outreach, education and pedagogy, (3) application of ecology to management and policy." ESA Fellows are elected for life.
