Gerald Berthelette, SNRE graduate student advised by Dr. Fehmi, has been awarded an East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (EAPSI) Fellowship from the National Science Foundation. The NSF EAPSI Fellowship provides support for graduate students to work in one of seven East Asian and Pacific countries, working in collaboration with a host site and foreign counterparts. Gerald's research project, "Identifying Indicator Species in Three Different Steppe Regions of Inner Mongolia," will allow him to travel to China this summer with support from the EAPSI fellowship, where he will study indicator species on the Mongolian plateau. Gerald hopes his research will assist the Chinese government in helping the indigenous people of these expansive grasslands to manage their livestock and forage quality using more sustainable practices.
