Dr. Elise Gornish has been named the 2019 winner of the Excellence in Campus-Community Outreach for STEM Diversity Award, presented by the UA Women in Science and Engineering Program.  The award honors an individual who works to build connections between UA students/faculty/staff and the larger southern Arizona community in the name of promoting diversity in STEM fields.  Dr. Gornish was nominated by Dr. Stuart Marsh for her unyielding commitment to fostering diversity in STEM fields and her efforts to remove barriers women and people of color face in STEM fields.  Specifically, Dr. Gornish has served as the Director for the University of Arizona's Girls on outdoor Adventure for Leadership and Science (GALS) program, an intiative started at Duke University to engage high school girls in plant-based outdoor science learning and leadership.  The award will presented at the 2019 Science and Engineering Excellence Banquet on Thursday, March 14.
