Dr. Laura Meredith and her team use the Biosphere 2 to test climate change models
Dr. Laura Meredith is working with international collaborators to investigate how rain forests respond to drought-induced stress, testing models used to predict the effects of climate change. The research team intends to track carbon and water use in plants by introducing specific isotopes into a closed rain forest ecosystem within the Biosphere 2. Biosphere 2 further allows them to examine the production and movement of volatile organic compounds through the ecosystem, which could influence atmospheric conditions. The project is a leading example of how an international collaborative effort, in conjunction with the UA's Biosphere 2, can facilitate pioneering research needed to mediate anthropogenic change.
