Dr. Jim Malusa was interviewed for an article on rain, wildflowers, and invasive species featured in AZ Public Media. Dr. Malusa discusses how the extra rainfall during the past year doesn't just lead to abundant wildflowers, but also impacts the spread of invasive species like buffelgrass and Sahara mustard. These species exacerbate the risk of fire during the dry summer, including on local landmarks like Sentinel Peak. Dr. Malusa also discusses how his plans to work with a federal team to remove some of these invasive plants was unfortunately disrupted due to the government shutdown.
