SNRE Ph.D. Candidate Austin Rutherford Attends South Central Climate Science Center Training

The South Central Climate Science Center (SC CSC) based at the University of Oklahoma recently held their second Early Career and Professional Development Training in Lubbock, Texas. The training welcomes early career researchers (post-docs, Ph.D. students, and exceptional Master?s students) in multiple disciplines related to climate science. Many topics are covered including climate change, climate modeling, social impacts from climate change and climate disasters, as well as how to build multiple stakeholder relationships in conducting interdisciplinary research. The training provides great insights into communicating one?s research with the public and techniques for boosting your career as a researcher. There are also many field trips to explore in person how climate impacts local agriculture, hydrology, and communities within the South Central region.

Three University of Arizona graduate students attended the training this past June from multiple departments at the University including Austin Rutherford from SNRE. Current and future students whose research is related in any way to climate and/or climate change are greatly encouraged to apply. The next SC CSC Early Career and Professional Development training is slotted to occur in 2018, and attendees receive travel funding including hotel stay and per diem if accepted.
