SNRE Student Winners at 2016 Wildlife and American Fisheries Society Meeting
Friday, 5 February, was a very good day for SNRE graduate students at the 2016 Joint Annual Meeting of the Arizona and New Mexico Chapters of The Wildlife Society and the American Fisheries Society held in Flagstaff! Sarah Hale, a WFSC doctoral candidate in in the Koprowski Conservation Research Lab who received her BS from Purdue and MS from Mississippi State, received the Outstanding Student Presentation from the AZTWS and NMTWS chapters. Success in the competition resulted after submission of application materials from which the top 6 candidates were selected to provide 20 min oral presentation. Sarah was the last presenter of the special award session and her presentation ?Resuming a keystone role: the return of black-tailed prairie dogs to Arizona? coauthored with SNRE professors Steve Archer and John Koprowski was stellar, earning her the honor. Sarah is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and has produced several publications related to her field research efforts.
Jonathan Derbridge, a WFSC doctoral candidate in the Koprowski Conservation Research Lab who received his BS from Univ of California-Berkeley and MS from University of Montana, was presented with the Roger Hungerford Award at the 2016 Joint Annual Meeting. The Roger Hungerford Award is given to a student who, while attending an Arizona college or university, made significant contributions to the management and conservation of Arizona?s wildlife and/or habitat. Contributions are in the areas of wildlife research, education and training, management, conservation, or law enforcement. The Award is given in memory of one of Arizona?s finest research biologists, Roger Hungerford. Jonathan is actively involved in The Wildlife Society and is an alumnus of its Leadership Institute and has already produced several publications from his MS and PhD work.
