Global Vulnerability of Forests to Climate Change-Related Tree Mortality is Widely Underestimated

A recent publication co-authored by Dr. David Breshears has been featured as an ?ESA Centennial Paper," commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Ecological Society of America. The paper, On underestimation of global vulnerability to tree mortality and forest die-off from hotter drought in the Anthropocene, was published in Ecosphere. Dr. Breshears and co-author Craig D. Allen will present the paper's results, which assess over 400 studies on tree mortality, at the ESA Annual Conference this week. The U.S. Geological Survey has also published a press release regarding the article, which concludes that tree mortality events will become more common due to warming temperatures cause by global climate change.
