Environmental conservation and economic development are often framed as a zero-sum game. In fact, conservation and restoration activities support a wide variety of economic benefits. This talk will explore ecosystem services and their economic values, presenting a case study from 2021 “The Nature-Based Restorative Economy in Santa Cruz County, Arizona”, and discussing how the environmental economics toolkit can help support research and applied work in conservation and related disciplines.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Dari Duval has over 10 years of experience working in applied economic analysis for the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. She specializes in non-market valuation of natural resources, regional economic analysis, and agriculture and water in the Southwest. Dari holds a doctoral degree in Natural Resources from the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. Dari’s work has been published in different journals such as Ecological Engineering, Journal of the American Water Resources Association, and Hydrology, among others.
