Widely distributed plants of western North America have complex histories shaped by biogeographic barriers and distributional shifts due to glacial oscillations and changing environmental regimes. Plants in this region often illustrate continuums of phenotypic and genetic divergence with variable reproductive isolation among populations and species. The research presented applies landscape genetic analyses of high throughput sequencing data to address factors underlying the formation and maintenance of diversification and reproductive barriers in native plants of conservation concern. Our research highlights the importance of understanding species’ life history strategies and evolutionary histories to avoid unintended consequences during ecological restoration implementation and expectations for evolution across changing environments in western North America.
