Dr. Macías-Duarte specializes in wildlife population ecology and conservation in northern Mexico. His work spans a range of avian studies, including the reproductive biology and habitat of the endangered Aplomado Falcon, grassland bird abundance and survival in the Chihuahuan Desert, and population genetics and migratory behavior of the Western Burrowing Owl. He has also studied nesting phenology in Sonoran Desert passerines, ecology of Western Yellow-billed Cuckoos in riparian areas of Sonora, and feeding ecology and genetics of Montezuma Quail. Additionally, his research on Golden Eagles explores natal dispersal patterns. Dr. Macías-Duarte is particularly interested in using bird population dynamics and life history traits as early indicators of environmental change. He holds a Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from the University of Arizona, an M.Sc. in Animal Production from the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, and a B.Sc. in Ecological Engineering from Sonora State University.
