Abstract: Invasive species can change the disease dynamics of an ecosystem in several ways. Rare pathogens can become more common if the invading host species can amplify the pathogen. Alternatively, exotic invasive species can bring exotic pathogens that find naïve host species and propagate. These changes in the disease landscape can have profound impacts on livestock, wildlife and public health. I will use three case studies to illustrate what we have learned about the ways in which invasive species can create pathogen pollution and alter ecosystem processes.
