The School of Natural Resources and the Environment (SNRE; http://snre.arizona.edu/) at the University of Arizona (UA) (http://www.arizona.edu/) seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-eligible position emphasizing the human dimension and decision making of coupled natural-human systems. Societies are facing unprecedented environmental challenges to their well-being due to myriad anthropogenic effects on ecosystems including the loss of biodiversity; climate change; over-exploitation of water, wildlife, and other natural resources; invasive species; and habitat fragmentation. As the state’s land-grant institution with integrated research-education-outreach programs, the successful candidate will (1) conduct research that will help us understand and anticipate the nature of these challenges in arid and semi-arid settings; (2) contribute to collaborative decision-making processes for natural resource governance and policy that spans local to global scales, and natural to social sciences and (3) train diverse scientists, land and wildlife managers, citizens, and decision-makers to address the challenges that confront society and the ecosystems that support us.
Context: SNRE has strong research, teaching and outreach programs in wildlife and fisheries ecology; conservation biology; ecohydrology and watershed management; rangeland ecology, restoration, and management; global change ecology and management; and arid land resources. SNRE is also host to multiple cooperators from both the federal (the USGS Arizona Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, the USGS Sonoran Desert Research Station, the National Park Service Desert Southwest Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit, the USGS Southwest Climate Science Center, the National Phenology Network) and state (Game and Fish Dept., Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of Environmental Quality) agencies. Our cooperative extension personnel have strong connections to landowners throughout Arizona.

The successful candidate is expected to produce a strong record of peer-reviewed and refereed publications and to promote the mission and vision of making UA an international leader in coupled natural-human systems.
Teaching: We seek an enthusiastic educator who will be responsible for developing and teaching courses that substantively contribute to our Bachelor of Science and our MS and Ph.D. degrees, emphasizing the human dimensions of wildlife & fisheries ecology, conservation biology and rangeland ecology. The candidate is expected to advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in coursework and research and be committed to the promotion and enhancement of the diversity of our students, particularly those from backgrounds underrepresented in the discipline.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in a discipline related to natural resources, a record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating high quality research, evidence of interest and experience in classroom instruction, a demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding and a willingness to work in arid and semi-arid systems.
