Dr. Lopez Hoffman's working group featured in Powell Center Newsletter

Sunday, August 10, 2014

The working group of Dr. Laura Lopez-Hoffman and Dr. Ruscena Wiederholt, research scientist and Powell Center Fellow, has been featured in the first ever USGS Powell Center Newsletter. The Powell Center Working Group, which includes members from institutions in the U.S. and Mexico, has estimated the proportional dependence of migratory populations of monarch butterflies and Mexican free-tail bats on different habitats as well as the value humans derive from these populations. The group has produced six publications, four of which are in press. In 2013, their paper “Animal Migration and Spatial Subsidies: Establishing a Framework for Conservation Markets,” received the Excellence in Research Application Award from the U.S. Forest Service.
