Droughts are Pushing Trees to the Limit
SNRE Adjunct Professor Julio Betancourt is the co-author of a recently published study on the responses of plants to drought. The study found that warmer temperatures are increasing the stress on plants, particularly on those in mid and low elevations.

Stephen Jackson Named New Southwest Climate Science Center Director
Stephen Jackson, Professor of Botany at the University of Wyoming has been named the Director for the new Southwest Climate Science Center. The center's goal is to provide local land managers access to the science of climate change and other stressors to national natural resources. Stephen Jackson will be an Adjunct Research Professor in SNRE and an Adjunct Professor in Geosciences.

I completed a Master's at the University of Illinois studying the role of asymmetric competition on largemouth bass recruitment. During my time in Champaign,I also contributed to the development of a spatially-explicit food web model of the Upper Mississippi River.
I am currently developing an agent-based model of coupled natural and human ecosystems in the Southwest. Specifically, I am modeling how changes in ecohydrology influence human decision-making.

Starting in 1999, I began working with the Natural Resources Conservation Service Plant Materials Center in Tucson. I assisted with the production and maintenance of field and greenhouse plantings, made seed and propagule collections from the field, and assisted with the installation of experimental in situ plantings and the evaluation of research results.
